About Me

About Us

Welcome to Budget Off-road Touring. This is a small little blog about our own camping and four-wheel driving experiences. Our names are Lauren and Shaun, from Camden in Western Sydney, and we drive a 2015 Isuzu D-Max dual cab. Shaun has been camping with his family for as long as he can remember but we have only begun to enjoy the great outdoors together in the last couple of years.  This blog will be just us sharing our experiences with four-wheel driving and touring around Australia while we show that you don’t need to spend over 100k to get out and explore the great outdoors.

Our Vehicles

 2015 Isuzu Dmax LSM

For all our adventures, we drive our 2015 Isuzu Dmax Auto LSM. The Dmax is fitted with a 2-inch Dobinsons Suspension lift, ARB Steel bar work all around (Bullbar, brushbars, rock sliders and a rear bar), Front ARB Air locker (with ARB Compressor under the bonnet), Safari Snorkel, Adventure Kings Dominator Xtreme winch, Adventure Kings Spotlights and Awning. Fitted in the tub of the Dmax is an Adventure Kings 115ah AGM deep cycle battery in a battery box, charged by a Ctek D250SA DCDC battery charger.  For tyres we use 265/65r16 Pirelli Scorpion Mud Tyres fitted to Speedy steel rims. We also always carry around a 1kg Fire Extinguisher, a First Aid Kit and an Adventure Kings Dual Thumper Max air compressor for our tyres.

1994 Cavalier Off-Road Deluxe Camper Trailer

When we head off on our longer adventures, we tow behind us a 1994 Cavalier Off-Road Deluxe Camper Trailer. This provides us with the comfort of sleeping off the ground on a mattress, with plenty of room to get changed in. We have a slide-out kitchen with a gas bbq bolted in. The trailer itself also has four jerry can holders which we use to carry 40L of extra diesel and 40L of water. There are also 2 gas bottle holders, but we only take away 1 4kg bottle for the bbq. Since buying the trailer, we have also added a 70L water tank for extra capacity, and will soon add a water pump to work alongside this. The trailer gives us so much extra room in the D-Max as we store all our cooking and sleeping gear as well as our chairs in the trailer. Allowing for our clothes, food and table to be the only things inside the car (or tub). The trailer has offroad suspension which is great for long drives on corrugated roads or when we are on the tracks heading to camp, which works great in combination with the treg style tow hitch. Underneath the trailer, we have two spare leaf springs fitted for easy access if something was to break, as well as a spare wheel hub fitted with the spare tyre, providing additional peace of mind when travelling remote. The trailer is also fitted with off-road tyres.
